Learning Philosophy

The focus of the Humanship methods is to the place between the person and the horse; the relationship. This is the place where what is going on within yourselves and the horse meets. How we meet is the most important aspect. At the core of our relationship building is our internal stuff, not the external. The external doing is just an expression of the internal being.
Although we help people to learn the skills to handle and control your horse, the application of the skill is more than the doing. It is more about who you are and how you live. Lets face it, we all have fears in life. These fears all affect the way we communicate and get through any given moment in time including the time we are with our horse.
There are no levels to achieve to measure your achievement and no certificates to gain.
We are not qualified to judge how you are doing with your horse, as the only true measure of what is happening or changing between you and your horse is between you and your horse and the relationship that you work out together. Besides, the horse can be the only judge of how it is for him and he also has difficulty in holding a pen to sign certificates.
Another aspect of the modern capitalist business world is about creating a dependency of the client to the service or product being sold. This is no different in the horse world, where many trainers create a dependency in their clients so that they keep coming back for workshops and tuition and paying them plenty of money. Add to this that they promote many products, as the only products that can be used to achieve the ends that must be met in order to fit their system.
Our aim is to create an independent client, who is prepared to self explore with their horse, returning when they are stuck.
One of the best compliments for us working with people is not seeing someone for a while. We know at this point the horse has truly become the teacher. Some people understand the concept quicker than others, so most people know when they are ready to soldier on working it out between them and their horse.
Our roles are ones of learning facilitator, observer, and to offer feedback to you. We want you to explore, not necessarily, for us to show you how to do everything. Every time we are with our horse, on offer is an experiential, intrinsic and reflective learning opportunity. We like to stand back and observe the big picture of what is going on between you and the horse, look at the congruities and incongruities of the communication in the relationship, how the relationship works. Then we will help you to work through these things with your horse.
We also don’t teach you or your horse any circus or party tricks here. Although as you develop your partnership with the basis of trust and respect, this might be something you want to do for yourself.
